Ofsted praises “rich learning” at a Worcester Park primary school
Cuddington Community Primary School continues to maintain high standards
A Worcester Park primary school is maintaining its high standards, according to Ofsted.
Cuddington Community Primary School is located on Salisbury Road. It is part of The Howard Partnership Trust, a family of schools committed to delivering life-changing education. The school was visited by inspectors toward the end of November. Having previously judged the primary as “good” in 2019, the purpose of the ungraded inspection was to determine whether the school has maintained the standard from its previous inspection.
Ofsted found the school to have “high expectations for all pupils’ achievement” and that “pupils achieve well”. Inspectors praised:
- Good behaviour and strong safety standards – pupils behave well and know who to talk to if they have any issues. This results in orderly and engaging lessons. The report noted that “pupils feel safe at school. They particularly appreciate the teaching they receive about their physical and mental health.”
- Creative approaches to play – with children enjoying high-quality outdoor play, their mud kitchen, chalk areas and woodland. The report also praised the way that different year groups worked well together, observing that, “older pupil leaders enjoy working with younger pupils, including acting as reading buddies.”
- Strong curriculum knowledge among the staff – inspectors found that the curriculum clearly identifies the knowledge pupils need to learn and the sequence in which they need to know it. Staff have strong subject knowledge, leading to effective and accurate teaching.
- Rich learning in early years – the report noted that “where children are new or need additional help, they are supported individually as part of their supervised learning activities.”
- A commitment to diversity and equality – Inspectors found that “the school is committed to meeting the diverse needs of pupils.” Students with special educational needs and/or disabilities achieve well, as do those who speak English as an additional language.
Emma Dempster, Principal of Cuddington Community Primary School said, “Our dedicated and conscientious team of staff work hard to feed curiosity and inspire learning in every child. It’s great that Ofsted have acknowledged that we maintain high standards across the life of the school, hold high aspirations for all and work hard to ensure that everyone is included.
“I am extremely grateful to our young people, staff and families for all the efforts that go into making our school the safe, nurturing and ambitious community that inspectors have praised. We are also grateful to the support we continue to receive from our partners in The Howard Partnership Trust. We will continue to work together as a team to take our school to even greater levels of success.”
Cuddington Community Primary School is a small, friendly, one-class entry, all-through primary school with Nursery on the edge of Worcester Park. It strives to be “a small school with a big welcome.” The school seeks to serve the community by providing a strong supportive caring environment where children thrive, grow and achieve.
The Howard Partnership Trust is a family of schools committed to delivering life-changing education. The trust’s task is to unearth and celebrate the excellence that exists in each young person. We believe that this sets people on the right path for life and equips children and society with the skills, character and resilience they need to flourish.
